About Syakesan

(Major spoiler warnings for Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea!!)

Syakesan/Sal is the main antagonist of Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea.

Syakesan initially appears as a friendly, helpful shark (dolphin?) working for the Princess Uomi, a member of her royal court in the Blue Sea Kingdom.

However, he eventually reveals himself to be the traitor that the main cast have been looking for: the Ambassador of the Sea of Death, whose appearance had been foretold for many years, but eventually thought to be nothing more than a rumour or legend. He destroys the Cast Pearl which had been used to seal away the Sea of Death, and releases its horrors into the sea. He taunts the main cast and reveals he is in love with the main character, Wadanohara, and has a twisted obsession with her.

Over the course of the game, he provokes Wadanohara and her familiars and tries to kill them and to take Wadanohara for his own, but fails. Eventually in the true ending, after the attempt to corrupt the sea fails, he is confronted by Wadanohara and his twin brother Samekichi. He impales Wadanohara with the Sacred Sword and flees after causing as much destruction as he can. His brother chases after him and the two talk a little before Samekichi eventually ends Sal's life with the sword.

Sal is a very... emotionally volatile and cruel individual. He enjoys taunting people with threats and cruel jokes, and relishes in people being scared of him. He enjoys both inflicting violence and being on the receiving end of it, and seems to enjoy other's uncomfortable reactions to that. He comes across as very confident and charismatic, making jokes and seeming quite smug and unaffected. He tends to speak in a sing song manner, with music notes and tildes often at the end of his speech. He also speaks in a kind of quaint, old fashioned way. Honestly I struggle to explain it, he just talks cute lol.

Despite his confident and playful demeanour, he is also very emotionally reactive and angry- his mood changing very quickly when things don't go his way, especially in the manga. Whenever Wadanohara rejects him, or he becomes jealous of his brother's relationship with her, he becomes very cold and scary very fast, but snaps out of it and acts like he's fine quickly. A lot of his issues stem from witnessing his mothers suicide as a child, which is what led him to hate the sea and his brother.

He has a twisted obsession with Wadanohara, and is extremely jealous of his brother Samekichi's relationship with her, threatening to kill him when Wadanohara acts scared and unhappy when he attacks her. In the Red Sea Ending, he successfully attacks Wadanohara, brainwashing her into joining the Sea of Death and becoming his girlfriend. He seemingly treats her pretty well after this (aside from the fact the situation is obviously awful), trying his best to please her. He raves about her and clearly loves her a lot, but she still does not really love him and hurts him and puts him down, while still caring about Samekichi. This is the happiest he can realistically get with her, but it is partially cope as he is still jealous of Samekichi and takes it out on him as a prisoner, he's still not actually loved and the whole situation is just kind of horrible for everyone.

You are probably thinking damn this guy sucks! And you know what you are right he is pretty terrible. But there are some good things! Well I like him at least.

Sal does a lot of bad stuff but I do love him a lot, I always have liked villains and he's helped me a lot with self acceptance and my own mental health issues (though thats more for the about us page...) I also really respect how much he sticks to his ideals. I know he's just crazy stubborn and the stuff he does is bad but I like how he's just himself. He might hate a lot of people but he also doesn't judge people for being different or bad people or doing things wrong. When the other members of the Sea of Death fail their missions, he's accepting of it and just glad they tried their best.

He's also silly! He sometimes dresses up as a cat or dog, he values his "cute appeal" and enjoys crossdressing lol. As evil and mean as he is he does also like to be soft and spoiled and seems to like approval from others.

He's also very romantic, he likes declaring and describing his feelings pretty poetically, and all he mainly wants is to love and be loved. He genuinely feels deeply for Wadanohara, he's just very fucked up. I really love the depth of his feelings, even if he expresses them in bad ways, because I know he has the capacity to make something sweet out of them too in the right situation.

He enjoys gardening, flower care and cooking, though he's not much of a foodie. He enjoys salads and vegetables more than meat, and his favorite foods are seaweed and "sweet white things". I am still not sure what exactly that's supposed to entail so I just get him vanilla desserts. He's a fast swimmer and takes care of himself physically. He's encouraged me a lot with my health ^_^ He also does not have a canon birthday since they don't have them in his world, but I chose November 27 as his honorary birthday since it's the date the manga chapter with his reveal was released!!

So yeah Sal isn't a great person but I still love him a lot and think he is sweet!! More about that on the page about our relationship though :>
